Weight

J and I are both trying to put on a bit of weight.

He's 5ft 10" and was down to 8 stone 7lbs after half-term. This was caused by lying in bed until lunchtime, thereby missing breakfast, and then lying on the sofa for most of the day in a teenage-sort-of-way instead of getting meals from the kitchen. Since then he has been force feeding himself currys and pizzas and fruit crumbles and donuts and all sorts of pretty unhealthy stuff (no fruit crumble does NOT count as one of your 5-a-day, nor do the tomatoes on a pizza). After 3 weeks of such hardship (not) he is now 9st.
I'm 5ft 6" and 8st 12lbs. I can eat vegetable currys and tiny bits of pizza but fruit crumbles and donuts are a no no. I cant see pictures of them in my Mediterranean pyramid. After 3 weeks of grains and fruit and veg and rye bread I've put on 1/2 lb - yay!

  1. Come over to the United States. Every headline says we're too fat. Personally I'm down 34 pounds at the moment. Cancer diet. Not sure how many stones I should throw in. :-) The Mediteranean diet sounds interesting. Does it come with a view? Carole may have you on pictures after her trip to Rhodes. Beautiful photos on her blog. You seem the opposite of most people I know. Trying to put on weight. More important to eat right. I admire your determination.

  2. You are far more determined than me with your chemo marathon. 34lbs is a heck of a weight loss. You've lost the equivalent of a 3 year old child - quick, count the kids!

We have a TV series here called 'Supersize Superskinny'. Its about re-educating kids eating habits. Now that I am on a healthier diet I realise how many aisles in the supermarket have rubbish food on them - fizzy drinks (soda), crisps (chips?), biscuits (cookies) etc. See I'm catering for my US buddy! I wish we had the sort of fresh food street markets Carole talks about in Greece. They have them in France and Spain, but they dont seem to work here. We do have what are called 'Farmers Markets' where farmers sell their produce direct but mainly we are stuck with supermarket stuff.

I need to be a good weight and on a good diet to cope with the never-ending procedures. If I do end up needing a transplant I cant risk being of skeletal proportions before they start!
