What's going on?..

Letter on the mat when I get back from work. An appointment has been booked for me at Macclesfield Hospital for a CT abdominal scan (with contrast dye) on 29th November.

What?

By a Dr R J St***. Who is he?

I look him up.

His speciality is lung cancer.

What is going on?

I don't feel like spending time and money ringing round trying to get to the bottom of this. So I've written to heppy doc asking him if he knows about it - his last letter to me clearly states that he will be organising CT scans as I'm under his care now.
And I've made an appointment with my GP to see if he knows what it's about, as I'm due to have some bloods taken anyway for the tumour marker and my Vitamin D levels.
GP is booked up for 3 weeks, so it will be a while!

UPDATE: Wrote to heppy doc (as above) and left message on GI doc's answerphone (secretary) - but a week later, no reply from either.

  1. Fiona,
Wouldn't it be nice if they would think to keep the patient in the loop?
Oft times, they seem to forget about that one.
    Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi Fiona,
My Oncologist is also a specialist in Lung cancer(found out when I googled him)I asked him about it and he said that he deals with Lungs, liver and breast cancers but lungs are his speciality.I was sent to him because he has had experience with 2(just 2 lol) other patients with my type of cancer. Can you try and get a sooner appointment with your Gp and ask him to explain whats going on.I can usually get in the same day for something like that.I hope you are feeling ok at the moment,I know this must be playing on your mind.Take care.Siobhan

  3. Lovely to hear from you Siobhan. I hardly ever pop into Macmillan site now. How are things with you - stable I hope?
I'm hoping this is a simple case of too many people involved and the right hand not talking to the left hand. Macclesfield, where this mystery Doc is, have been until recently responsible for organising my CT scans, so my name may have just popped up as due one. If there are concerns about my lungs, I'm happy to have a chest CT. But an abdominal/liver CT done in Macc hospital is no use to either my surgeon or my heppy doc, as their hospital systems cant open the image file!
I've written a letter (dont have email address) to heppy doc, so hoping for a response to that before I see GP on November 18th. The 18th gives me 11 days before the mystery scan date so even if I leave it till then to cancel hopefully someone else will get the slot.
The GP in my practice who is looking after me does do emergency clinics once a week I could get in on, but I dont feel like an emergency at the moment!
